Letter to members on designation change
February 2009
Dear PMAC Members,
It is my great pleasure to inform you that the PMAC National Board of Directors has approved the Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation be replaced by a new professional designation that better reflects the field of practice of strategic supply chain management.
The PMAC Board also approved that the new designation be automatically granted to all existing holders of the C.P.P. designation. Remaining Principles-based program candidates and Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program (SSCMLP) candidates who successfully complete their programs in 2009, as well as future SSCMLP graduates, will receive the new designation.
These decisions were taken by the PMAC Board after consultation with members and other stakeholders, and after acceptance of a report on designation change from a task force of C.P.P.s and accreditation candidates. Our intent in approving a new designation is to position our members for success in a changing marketplace. We are no longer only professionals in purchasing, but in the multiple areas of supply chain management.
PMAC is presently working with its legal counsel to secure protection for a proposed new professional designation and certification mark. Further information on a name and timing for the rollout of the new designation will be provided in the coming weeks as soon as we have completed the legal aspects of the change.
This marks an exciting new chapter in the evolution of our profession. With a new designation, we are moving forward to enhance the profile, influence and reputation of our members as the leaders in strategic supply chain management.
Yours truly,
Leah Bach, C.P.P.
Chair, PMAC Board of Directors
