About the opportunity

The Pacific Manufacturing Association of Canada (PMAC) is a recently established industry association that represents Canada's largest automakers: Honda and Toyota. PMAC is seeking a Communications and Operations Director to lead the association's communications activities and support outreach and operations activities. This is a full-time position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the President and CEO and working closely with PMAC Government Relations and Communications Committees, the ideal candidate will lead or contribute to the following activities:


Communications

The Communications and Operations Director will develop and execute the organization's communications plan. This will include the development of a social media strategy. It will also include updating and maintaining the organization's website, preparing material for consultations and presentations, and coordinating and tracking the public activities of PMAC and its members, including media monitoring, social listening, and participation in government consultations.


Government Relations

PMAC's primary purpose is to advocate to all levels of government on behalf of its members. The Communications and Operations Director will work closely with the President and CEO to support government relations initiatives. This includes scheduling, preparing for, and attending meetings with elected officials and their staff, as well as maintaining records and minutes of meetings. It also includes gathering information and preparing background analysis of key issues related to trade, regulations, and government policies.


Events and Networking

PMAC regularly participates in, organizes, co-organizes, and/or sponsors industry- and government-focused events. The Communications and Operations Director will plan, organize, and execute all aspects of these events.


Operations

The Communications and Operations Director will support the general operation of the association. This includes supporting the President and CEO in meetings with internal stakeholders (including the board of directors), other industry associations, and other partner organizations. The Communications and Operations Director will maintain detailed records of activities, and will track progress on organizational commitments and initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years relevant work experience. They will be required to balance remote work as an individual contributor with minimal supervision and in-person meetings in a multi-stakeholder team environment. They must be committed to staying informed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. They will be highly-organized and able to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.


• University degree in public relations, communications, political science, policy studies, or business preferred
• Government, public policy, and/or government relations experience is an asset
• Experience with industry and trade associations is an asset
• Automotive industry experience is an asset
• Fluency in English is required; fluency in French is an asset
• Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel regularly within Ontario (e.g. Toronto, Ottawa, Waterloo, Simcoe County), including occasional overnight travel
• Must be willing to travel to the United States occasionally, including overnight travel

The posted salary range reflects the target range for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, and relevant experience.
